RUBAD CARDIGANS PUPPY PAGE
We have an adult available, our Jacob, who can be seen on our Boys Page. I kept Jacob because he was more fearful than other Cardigan puppies. He has had a lot of socialization and behavioral training for impulse control, so I feel that he's ready to spread his wings and have his own loving family. He is very sweet and loving, but independent, typical of the breed. He loves to hike and needs some sort of exercise each day. He's a wonderful hiking and walking companion. Here at Rubad, he is our loved pet and house dog.
Jacob
Jacob is a "big feelings" boy. He doesn't like the other Cardigan male in our household. He wants to control the behavior of our other two Cardigans around food and other resources, but not with our 75 pound German Shepherd, and never with people. He can be a bit of a bully in the house and yard with our own dogs. Outside of the home, he has never shown aggression toward dogs at the park, either on or off lead. He can be leash reactive toward other dogs when on lead, walking in our busy suburban neighborhood. I try to walk him in larger spaces where he doesn't feel hemmed in and can interact in a friendly manner. That said, he's had a lot of behavioral training and is on behavioral meds to help him control his feelings. He hasn't lived with kids, so I want to find an adult only home, or a home with gentler older kids. He isn't hostile and is even friendly with little ones, but they worry him when they move fast. Jacob needs a light touch, as harsh treatment frightens him. He is very willing to do what I want when I am gentle and reasonable with him. Even when he is accidentally with our other boy, it's very easy to convince him to move away and disengage.
He needs his exercise, so a large area where he can run or regular walks are a must. He would be a great performance prospect if desired. He likes his barnhunt competitions and has taken an agility foundations class. He has been on sheep and has herding instinct. Jacob is 2 and a half. He is crate trained, neutered, housebroken and up to date on vaccines. He's excellent in the car and has traveled to dog shows and performance events. Jacob has his issues, but he is so worth it. Because he is already an adult, I want to find the right fit for him, and of course, if he doesn't work out, he must be returned to me. If you would like more information about Jacob, please contact Nancy at 614-256-7686.
